Our History

Building Trust since 1969

In 1968, the Home Builder Association of the Tri-Cities, which was made up of residential building industry professionals in Johnson City, Kingsport, and Bristol, was encouraged by the Home Builders Association of Tennessee to divide into three separate Home Builder Associations (HBA’s).  HBA of the Tri-Cities President Elect Coolidge Johnson assisted in the division and development of the three viable HBA’s and was then elected president of the newly formed Home Builders Association of Washington County.  On January 13, 1969 the Home Builders Association of Washington County was granted affiliation through the National Association of Home Builders at their annual meeting held in Houston, Texas.

The first Executive Committee for the HBA of Washington County was as follows:
President ~ Coolidge Johnson
Vice President ~ Earl Hampton
Secretary/Treasurer ~ Paul Walser
NAHB National Director ~ John Seward
* The HBA of Washington County was made up of 17 Builder Members and 10 Associate Members

In 1973, an application was approved by the National Association of Home Builders for a Change in Title to Johnson City Area Home Builders Association. The records were amended to reflect the change on September 24, 1973.

In 1976, Johnson City Area Home Builders Association was granted jurisdiction of Carter, Johnson and Unicoi Counties and these were added to the original areas assigned by NAHB that included Johnson City, Jonesborough, Greeneville, and Washington County.
